How to: Sewing Kit Gift Jar

This is such a cute and easy gift to make someone. And lets face it, everyone needs a safety pin or needle and thread at some point, so why not make it pretty and more obvious to find.
I saw a version of this on pinterest and had to make one for myself. I couldn't find a glass jar the size I wanted and I also wanted a container that wouldn't shatter on my floor (as I have been known to break a thing or 20 in my time), so I found a pack of 4 plastic containers at my local craft store for $6 and they had the most perfect deep lid for the job.
Here's what you will need:
A plastic jar with a deep lid (around 10cm across, but u can make whatever size you want)
Fabric, I chose Hessian as I have lots and I love the natural colour
Small amount of Stuffing (wadding) I used the inside of an unwanted cushion
Glue gun and glue sticks
Cardboard (I used a cut off from an old box)
PVA or Modpodge and brush
Pins, measuring tape, needle pack, thread, safety pins, buttons and what ever else you want to add that will fit like small scissors etc....
A tag and string for finishing touches.

Cut out a circle with a thick piece of cardboard in a size smaller than the centre by about 1cm to allow for fabric. My cardboard was 7cm across. Cut out fabric to cover at about double, so 14-16cm across to allow room for stuffing. Take a handful (or as much as you need to make a firm mound) of Wadding and place into the centre of fabric, place cardboard round on top of stuffing and gather fabric around. At this point you can start hot glueing. Make sure you don't get to much wadding around the edge or it won't fit into lid. Once you have your finished cushion, glue bottom onto the lid and hold down tight for a minute till you know it is fixed.

I didn't like how the glue looked on the inside so I cut another piece of fabric and glued with Modpodge to the bottom, so it looked nicer when you opened it, PVA glue will work just as well.
Once everything was dry and finished, I put pins in the pin cushion and filled the jar with essentials for a 'quick fix' sewing problem. I then finished with a stamped tag on pretty scrapbook paper and a piece of natural string so it complemented the Hessian fabric.
I love this, so easy, quick and simple, but very effective. Hope you enjoy making as much as I did.
